April 6th, 2021

Summer’s coming and that means at least a few more options to keep the kids occupied. If you’re lucky enough to live near a water amusement park, water splash park or wading pool, you’ll know that they are generally safe to use, even during a pandemic.

But, whether they are in housing complexes, public parks or community centres, many splash pads are unsupervised due to the minimal risk of serious injury.

But that doesn’t mean you don’t have to worry about your family’s safety altogether.

Remember These Water Splash Park Safety Tips

Practice the following safety tips to make sure you and your family get the most fun from your visit to any water play area.

Wear Sunscreen

That’s right. One of the biggest dangers at water parks isn’t the water or water features. Make sure to have lots of SPF 50 sunscreen on hand, apply it before you go out into the sun and reapply it regularly throughout the day.

Double Check the Water Play Area & Features

Especially if you’re going to a particular splash park for the first time, do a quick check of the area where children will be playing, including the spray park equipment, surfaces and obstacles.

Look for protrusions that could cause falls or other injuries. And consider finding another water park if the one you choose is overcrowded.

Talk to Your Children

They can be responsible for their own safety too. Show them the Rule board, make sure they understand it and get their assurance that they will follow the guidelines. Keep an eye on things and make sure your children know where you are at all times.

Bring Lots of Water

Yes, that means bringing water to a water park! Even when playing in the 2:water, children can get thirsty and not even know it because of how much fun they are having. Have water on hand and occasionally remind them to have some.
