First, we’ll presume that you have the basic safety rules and practices, height restrictions, etc., clearly posted all around your water park. So we’re not going to cover things like ‘no running’, or health issues, in this post

While those basic rules are crucial to the safety of everyone who uses the park, they by no means represent the complete safety systems, practices, and equipment of a water park.

To give you an idea of what we mean, safety must be a primary concern from the moment a water park development project is conceived. Every decision, from the placement of water park equipment to staffing requirements, must be made with the safety of your patrons and employees in mind.

Tips for Added Water Park Safety

What do we mean by ‘added’? The following tips cover some areas of safety that water park designers, developers and/or managers might not consider at first.

1) Have a First Aid Station Nearby – Considering the safety implications of children playing in the water, a first aid station should be on the grounds of the water park.

2) Choose Safe Water Park Equipment – Not all water park equipment is the same. As new, more complex designs are created to grab children’s imaginations, more moving parts and connections are being used. Every one of them has the potential to be a safety hazard if the equipment is not properly designed, manufactured and installed.

3) Have Adequate Numbers of Lifeguards – Qualified lifeguards may add to your overhead, but you can’t put a cost on the accidents they can prevent. Large water slides should have lifeguards at the start and finish of the slide. Guards should also be placed at crucial points of longer water rides, including lazy rivers, log flumes, and whitewater rides.

4) Provide Sun Protection – If the rest of your park is as safe as it can be, overexposure to the sun might be one of the biggest safety threats to your patrons. Offer them protection with either natural shade, like nearby trees; shade structures, like a canopy; or make sure sunscreen is available for purchase.
