Top Priorities for Planning an Enjoyable and Enduring Spray Park | Oct. 4th, 2019

October 4th, 2019

It might sound a little like an oxymoron, but summer’s over, so there’s lots to do for spray park owners and operators. Especially if you’re planning to open a new park in the New Year.

Whether it’s a smaller splash pad or big enough to include spray park water features, you need to start your planning as soon as possible to fit everything into the short summer construction window.

Consider These Priorities in Your Spray Park Planning

Make sure you give yourself enough time to carefully consider the following in your design and planning phases.

A Safe Space – It’s always priority number one. But not always for the reasons you might think. Yes, you need to make sure you plan and design the park, and choose spray park equipment, to minimize the potential for personal injuries and the consequences that can follow. But if you also want a park to be sustainable and enduring, your patrons must be able to enjoy your park with confidence. Even if no one gets hurt, if they don’t feel safe due to crowding or water conditions, you’ll probably need to renovate sooner later.

Crime Deterrence – This may be aligned with safety, but it’s on another level. Vandals and predators look for and can quickly spot opportunities. Look to the levels of security offered in larger water parks, including video surveillance and broad visibility, to protect your visitors

Properly Manage Your Budget – Of course, the working budget dictates a lot of what you can and can’t include in your planning and design. But it’s important for the success of your park, and fulfilling points 1 and 2 above, that you not let the budget compromise the safety and success of the park. Using spray park equipment as an example, the least expensive equipment is usually not the lowest priced equipment. Not only might low-cost equipment be a bigger drain on your budget due to shorter life cycles, but it could also compromise the safety of your park due to poor design and faster deterioration.
